Welcome to BIMA Pulse

Assalam Aleykum,

Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter! We hope you are all in the best of health and Iman. We’re excited to bring you fresh insights and updates that reflect the dynamic work BIMA has been involved in.

Alhamdulillah it has been a busy month for us here at BIMA with our flagship Lifesavers event taking place on 28th September! This year alhamdulillah we had over 110 mosques and community centres sign up with hundreds of attendees taught basic life support, delivered in local languages up and down the UK. We were fortunate to host our inaugural lifesavers event in Northern Ireland. BIMA has been fortunate to support the expansion of this vital project across the world with Lifesavers being delivered across 5 continents, entirely delivered by volunteers.

As always, our volunteers have been working in the background ensuring our cancer, ramadan and mental health teams develop a collaborative and comprehensive approach to how we deliver health advice to our communities through the Health Offer. Our Mindsavers project continues to allow discussions around faith centred mental health awareness take centre stage in mosques where traditionally our communities have faced barriers accessing resources to address these issues. Our student team (SBIMA) have been busy hosting meetings to create awareness of opportunities for students to take part in our organisational activities and mentoring, do keep an eye out on our upcoming development roadshows where will be delivering goal setting workshops at an Isoc near you!

Our advocacy work has continued with discussions with key stakeholders and regulators and we are pleased to have been referenced in the Baroness Warsi’s new book, ‘Muslims don't matter’, citing our role in highlighting the challenges experienced by Muslim healthcare professionals. In light of recent events in the UK and rising Islamophobia, it is an essential read and no doubt conversation provoking.

For any sisters interested in meeting some of our members and networking with like-minded individuals, then please do attend the women's retreat in Birmingham on 19th October.

We pray you find this edition both enjoyable and insightful.

JazakAllah Khayrun,
Dr. Qasim Malik
Executive Director
Senior Leadership Team of BIMA
