I hope you all had a blessed and joyous Eid-ul-Adha with your loved ones. As we reflect on this time of sacrifice, charity and community, we also look back with immense gratitude at the remarkable strides BIMA has made over the past month.
Recently, we gathered in Glasgow for the BIMA National Conference 2026, sharing a phenomenal weekend centred on connection and collective empowerment. We are incredibly proud that our joint defibrillator initiative with Islamic Relief was featured by the BBC, and our Mindsavers programme received national recognition from the BMJ and Equi.
A key focus recently has been the General Medical Council (GMC) reforms. The GMC is undergoing its biggest regulatory overhaul in recent times, with proposed changes that could significantly impact fitness to practise processes and professional standards. To unpack what this means for doctors and what an individual doctor can do, BIMA is hosting a vital webinar on 3rd June with expert insights from regulatory lawyer Kashif Mahmood and Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Shazad Amin.
Looking ahead, we invite you to the Muslim Chaplaincy Conference on 17th June, the MPower Leadership Summit on 20th June, the Mental Health summit on 18th of July and to volunteer for our nationwide Mindsavers workshops launching this July.
The demands of our profession are immense. Please continue to prioritise your own physical and mental well-being so you can continue to serve others compassionately.

New GMC Reforms: A Must-Attend Webinar!
The GMC is undergoing its biggest regulatory overhaul in more than 40 years, with proposed changes that could significantly impact fitness to practise processes, professional standards, and the future of medical regulation.
BIMA is hosting a webinar unpacking what these reforms could mean for doctors and the wider profession, chaired by Dr Nadia Khan, with expert insights from regulatory lawyer Kashif Mahmood and Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Shazad Amin.
The session will be a timely discussion around accountability, fairness, and the future direction of healthcare regulation in the UK.
BIMA is pleased to announce the Muslim Chaplaincy Conference 2026: End of Life Care and Organ Donation — a dedicated national gathering for Muslim chaplains, chaplaincy volunteers, and those supporting patients and families through some of life’s most sensitive moments.

BIMA & Islamic Relief UK Defibrillator Initiative Featured by the BBC
A joint initiative between BIMA, Islamic Relief, British Heart Foundation and the Department of Health and Social Care has been featured by the BBC, highlighting efforts to improve emergency cardiac response within local communities.
The project led to the installation of 57 publicly accessible defibrillators at mosques across the UK, alongside CPR and emergency response training for more than 300 mosque staff and volunteers.
The initiative forms part of BIMA’s wider cardiovascular health and Lifesavers work delivered annually in mosques and community spaces nationwide.
BIMA’s Mindsavers programme has recently been recognised by both the BMJ and Equi’s national Beyond the Clinic report for its work supporting mental health within Muslim communities.
The Equi report highlighted the important role faith and spirituality play in helping young people navigate stress and emotional wellbeing, recognising Mindsavers as a leading example of community-based, faith-sensitive support.
The BMJ also featured the work of Mindsavers Lead, Dr Imrana Siddiqui, acknowledging BIMA’s efforts to deliver evidence-based mental health education in mosques and community spaces in response to real gaps in care.
These recognitions reflect the growing importance of culturally grounded, community-led approaches to mental health support.
Earlier this month, BIMA hosted Let’s Talk Death: A Muslim Perspective on Dying — an online session exploring end-of-life care through both Islamic guidance and medical understanding.
The webinar was extremely well received, attracting over 500 registrants and generating thoughtful engagement and questions from participants throughout the session.
Discussions covered palliative care, Islamic and clinical perspectives on DNACPR and withholding treatment, and what happens physically at the end of life — helping create a safe and reflective space for conversations that are often difficult, but deeply important.
The team also launched A Muslim’s Guide to Expected Death at Home as part of Dying Matters Week 2026. You can access the guide below.
