This month we officially launched nominations for the inaugural British Muslim Health Awards, a landmark event celebrating the compassion, leadership, and excellence of Muslim healthcare professionals across the UK. If you know someone who deserves national recognition — now’s the time to nominate them.
We’ve also opened volunteer registration for two of BIMA’s flagship public health campaigns:
Lifesavers returns this September with a bold aim — to deliver CPR training in over 100 mosques nationwide in one weekend. Mindsavers launches soon after, building faith-inspired mental resilience in communities across the UK this autumn.
Whether you're new to BIMA or a long-standing member, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved, learn, and lead. Read on for updates on cancer awareness, end-of-life care advocacy, and vital training for our future nurses and midwives.

Reflecting on BIMA’s Engagement with the Assisted Dying Debate
As national discussions on assisted dying gained momentum, BIMA stepped forward to represent the voices of Muslim healthcare professionals and communities deeply affected by end-of-life care decisions.
Grounded in Islamic ethics and frontline medical experience, BIMA’s engagement emphasised compassion, the sanctity of life, and protection for society’s most vulnerable. We highlighted the real risks legalising assisted dying could pose — from undermining trust in healthcare to exacerbating health inequities — and advocated for investment in quality palliative care as a just and ethical alternative.
This journey reminded us that faith-based medical voices are vital in public discourse, offering both clarity and compassion. BIMA remains committed to shaping this conversation with dignity, expertise, and care.
Advancing the conversation on Organ Donation in Islam
Organised by the BIMA Organ Donation Team, an inspiring roundtable discussion took place in Batley at the end of June, led by Mufti Zubair Butt. Scholars from across the region gathered to explore his groundbreaking fatwa, which outlines the conditional permissibility of organ donation under strict ethical, and Shariah based safeguards.
The session was marked by unity, deep reflection, and a shared commitment to providing clear guidance to the Muslim community. A proposal for collective scholarly endorsement was well received. More roundtable discussions are planned keep an eye out for further updates as this vital conversation continues.

Heidi AI
Our AI scribe technology is already making a difference by automatically generating accurate medical documentation during consultations, allowing doctors to maintain full eye contact and engagement with patients while saving them up to 2 hours a day.
We're particularly hopeful that AI scribing technology can contribute toward reducing health inequalities through improvements in information quality and accessibility. When documentation is more accurate and comprehensive across all healthcare settings, it creates better continuity of care and more equitable health outcomes for all patients.
If you would like to learn more, please connect with us via our website heidihealth.com & if you are part of a GP practice, there is currently a special offer running where you can access the full functionality of Heidi for free for the next 3 months, so it's definitely worth trying.
