July 2026

Welcome to BIMA Pulse

WhatsApp Image 2026-07-05 at 22.53.03

Assalamualaikum and welcome to the July edition of BIMA Pulse!

At the heart of why so many of us join BIMA is a simple desire - to empower Muslim healthcare professionals and serve our communities with Ihsan.

This season marked a huge milestone for us as we launched the ACE team's first-ever Physiotherapy branch and introduced a dedicated stream for consultants, alongside hands-on sessions for incoming FY1s, pharmacists, nurses, dentists and more, so that muslim healthcare workers don't have to feel that they are walking their career path alone.

Beyond ACE, July has been packed with a buzz of activity within BIMA. The 3rd national rollout of Mindsavers workshops took place across 32 locations (and more on the way!), BIMA contributed to EQUI’s Faith in the NHS report and our End of Life Care team delivered a thoughtful presentation, creating a safe space for important conversations that are often left unsaid.

I extend a heartfelt thank you to all the dedicated leads and volunteers whose passion drives these projects, I am inspired by your perseverance and drive to bring benefit to others.

Faith in the NHS Report

Equi launch - Naomi Green

BIMA was pleased to contribute to EQUI’s new Faith in the NHS report, which explores the role of faith literacy in improving patient care, staff wellbeing and health equity.

BIMA collaborated on the healthcare professionals’ survey and contributed expert insights to the research. Among Muslim healthcare professionals surveyed, 100% agreed that understanding a patient’s faith can improve health outcomes, while only 7% felt the NHS consistently meets those needs.

BIMA President Dr Sahira Dar spoke at the report launch, reinforcing the importance of embedding faith-informed approaches across healthcare.

We thank EQUI for bringing greater attention to this important area and look forward to building on this work together.

Mindsavers Rollout across the UK

Mindsavers 2026 collage

This July, BIMA began its 3rd national rollout for its Mindsavers workshop in Masjids and community centres across the UK.

Developed by mental health professionals, Islamic scholars, academics, and people with lived experience, Mindsavers combines Islamic teachings with evidence-based mental health education to help build awareness, resilience, and wellbeing.

Alhumdulillah, the workshop has been delivered in 32 locations so far, with more scheduled for the coming weeks!

With over 700 attendees thus far and so much positive, heartfelt feedback, we thank Allah for allowing us to bring this knowledge to our communities, and pray that this will contribute to better outcomes for all.

Muslim Mental Health Summit

WhatsApp Image 2026-07-27 at 12.27.35

On Saturday 18th July, BIMA participated in MCB’s mental health summit and AGM.

This event gathered mental health professionals, voluntary organisations, AI experts and more from within the UK and beyond, with the goal of encouraging collaboration and collective efforts within the Muslim community.

The day consisted of panel discussions, keynote speeches, workshops, stalls and the release of an exciting new AI platform, for signposting to different Muslim mental health services.

Dr Imrana Siddiqui our BIMA mental health team lead, with partners, led a workshop on building resilience in our communities using an Islam-centric framework.

The Musli Mental Health Hub was launched at the event as part of the summit's aim to use technology to harness new tools to widen access and capacity. Using natural language, the Hub helps people find faith-sensitive mental health support that understands their Muslim identity and lived experience.

"When The Time Is Up" Community Presentation Delivered at UKIM Alum Rock Islamic Centre

WhatsApp Image 2026-07-24 at 21.11.33

On 9 July 2026, the BIMA End of Life Care Team delivered its “When The Time Is Up” community presentation at UKIM Alum Rock Islamic Centre in Birmingham, led by Dr Zulqarnain Majid.

The session created a valuable space for the community to reflect on end of life care through both medical and Islamic perspectives. Topics included planning ahead, palliative care, treatment decisions, personal values and the important role that faith plays when facing serious illness at the end of life.

Conversations around death and dying can often feel difficult, but Islam encourages us to approach these matters with knowledge, compassion and preparation. The session aimed to support individuals and families in having these conversations earlier, helping them feel better informed and more confident when difficult decisions arise.

The BIMA End of Life Care Team hopes to continue bringing these important conversations into mosques and communities across the UK. If your mosque, community centre or organisation would be interested in hosting a “When The Time Is Up” workshop, we would love to hear from you.

Please get in touch with the BIMA End of Life Care Team.

BIMA ACE Career Development Series

WhatsApp Image 2026-07-28 at 03.36.10

July saw three BIMA ACE events supporting healthcare professionals at different stages of their career journeys, with dedicated sessions for FY1 doctors, pharmacists and physiotherapists.

BIMA’s ACE FY1 event returned to help incoming resident doctors prepare for life on the wards, covering everything from portfolio tips and wellbeing to practical A to E assessment and bleep prioritisation. The popular bleep simulation also returned, this year using a new web app to deliver bleeps directly to participants’ phones.

ACE Pharmacy and ACE Physiotherapy brought students and early-career professionals together with experienced colleagues for profession-specific career insights, practical guidance and opportunities to ask questions about the pathways ahead.

Thank you to our speakers and everyone who joined us across all three events.

GP Triage: Autonomous AI Triage for Primary Care

Manual triage has become one of the biggest pressures in general practice. Practices are being asked to deliver faster access, including same-day urgent care, while workforce capacity stays flat. Most digital tools have shifted demand online but left the triage itself unchanged - a clinician or admin team still reviews every request and decides what happens next.

GP Triage takes a different approach. It is an autonomous AI triage and booking platform built specifically for NHS primary care, developed alongside NHS Digital and Microsoft. When a patient makes a request through the practice website or NHS App, the AI takes a dynamic clinical history - asking relevant follow-up questions the way a clinician would - assesses urgency, and either books the patient directly into the appropriate slot or service. It is removing manual triage for clinicians across the country!

The impact is clearest in practices already live. Since going live, a three-site practice in Lichfield serving around 14,000 patients, adopted GP Triage; they have removed approximately 30 hours of GP-led triage each week - 8 GP sessions returned to patient care. Another practice with 42,000 patients is currently saving 75 hours a week on what used to be a heavy manual triage burden.

GP Triage's CTO Dr Hannan Chaudery recently demonstrated the platform live with Dr Gandhi on eGPlearning, including the clinical safety and governance side, with questions taken from GPs watching. The recording is a straightforward way to see how it works in practice - click here to view.
