As summer draws to a close, BIMA is entering an exciting new season of events, campaigns and community initiatives. From empowering our communities with life-saving skills, mental health resilience and cancer awareness, to preparing our new Nurses and Midwifes to start their careers, there are so many opportunities to learn, volunteer, and make an impact together.
We’re also proud to be involved with two landmark projects: the inaugural British Muslim Health Awards - celebrating the incredible contributions of Muslim healthcare professionals across the UK; and our brand-new Hospital Prayer Room Guide, helping patients, families, and staff easily access prayer spaces nationwide.
August has also been a month of strong advocacy: BIMA has been featured in The New Arab and cited by the Foreign Affairs Committee, amplifying the voices of healthcare workers speaking up for justice and humanitarian protection. And most importantly, we are standing alongside PalMed Europe® in calling on global healthcare professionals and organisations to sign the Brussels Declaration — a powerful call to protect Gaza’s healthcare system and safeguard the right to medical care for every patient. This is not just about sympathy; it is a call to action. By signing and sharing the petition, you are helping to protect humanity itself.
As always, none of this is possible without your support. Whether it’s signing up to volunteer, joining a webinar, or simply sharing our work with others, you are part of the BIMA family and the change we’re building together.
Best wishes,
TeamBIMA

Manchester, once the city of textiles, felt like the perfect place to be gifted an Every Pregnancy t-shirt during my recent visit. It was a pleasure travelling down from Glasgow, a city even further north, to meet the inspiring Every Pregnancy team from the USA.
Every Pregnancy is a 'partnership coalition' NGO working to improve Muslim maternal health outcomes both globally and locally. Their work goes beyond fundraising - they empower and support other NGOs to make their work more effective and impactful. Partnering with Amanahfy, they’ve created a formidable recipe for collaboration. We look forward to continuing conversations to explore how BIMA can support and learn from this important work.
And of course, no trip is complete without sampling the local cuisine! I stopped by Archies for a burger before catching my train back to Glasgow. Verdict? A modest 2/5 - clearly a burger taste-test tour across the UK might be on the cards… let the #BurgerWars begin!

August at a Glance
Brussels Declaration to protect Gaza’s healthcare system and safeguard the right to medical care for every patient.
BIMA supports PalMed Europe®'s️ call to the healthcare professionals and medical organisations across the globe to sign the Brussels Declaration.
The Brussels Declaration is a call to action. It asks for urgent protection of hospitals and medical workers, and it demands accountability for those who attack them. Without accountability, this violence will continue. Without protection, more lives will be lost.
Today, we are not only asking for sympathy - we are asking for action:
We call on governments and international bodies to protect medical services.
We call for independent investigations into attacks on healthcare.
And we call on each of you to raise your voice and demand justice.
By signing and sharing the petition, you are not only showing support—you are joining a movement to protect humanity itself. Let us stand together to make sure hospitals return to being places of healing, not targets of war.
Pharmacists Urged to Support ‘Medicines To Gaza’ Initiative
Medicines To Gaza posters will be arriving in pharmacies across the UK with support from the National Pharmacy Association (NPA), Pharmacy Magazine and Independent Community Pharmacist Magazine.
Thank you to the National Pharmacy Association and Pharmacists’ Defence Association for supporting a much needed initiative!
BIMA Featured in The New Arab on NHS Workers and Palestine
The article highlights findings from a BIMA survey, where 97% of respondents reported their wellbeing had been negatively affected by the ongoing conflict. These results reflect the heavy toll on healthcare workers who continue to advocate for justice and human rights while facing increasing professional and personal challenges.

Whether you’re a patient, visitor, or healthcare worker, finding prayer facilities in hospitals isn’t always easy.
BIMA has created a Hospital Prayer Room Guide — a growing list of UK hospitals with prayer spaces, now available to add directly to your Google Maps app.
This as an ongoing community project – there are many areas that still need contributions, so we need your support with this work.
The Foreign Affairs Committee has published a report on the Israel-Palestine conflict — and BIMA’s evidence is cited multiple times.
We called for: 🔹 Suspension of arms sales 🔹 Protection of medical neutrality 🔹 Safe humanitarian access 🔹 Support for healthcare workers on the ground
While we welcome the Committee's recognition of these points, words must turn into action. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, and the UK must act now to uphold international law, protect civilians, and ensure accountability.

BIMA's work is made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsor and partners. Here's a message from a few of our generous sponsors - Heidi AI, Wahed Invest and OFFA.
Our AI scribe technology is already making a difference by automatically generating accurate medical documentation during consultations, allowing doctors to maintain full eye contact and engagement with patients while saving them up to 2 hours a day.
We're particularly hopeful that AI scribing technology can contribute toward reducing health inequalities through improvements in information quality and accessibility. When documentation is more accurate and comprehensive across all healthcare settings, it creates better continuity of care and more equitable health outcomes for all patients.
If you would like to learn more, please connect with us via our website heidihealth.com & if you are part of a GP practice, there is currently a special offer running where you can access the full functionality of Heidi for free for the next 3 months, so it's definitely worth trying.
